Imphal, August 06: A combined team of Imphal East Commandos and 23 Assam Rifles arrested four PREPAK activists during cordon and search operation at Bamon Kampu area at around 9.30 pm yesterday.

According to a statement issued by SP of Imphal East District L Kailun, the arrested PREPAK activists are identified as Haobam Chaoba alias Tomba (25) s/o H Maipak of Thanga Karang, Oinam Chandrababu (25) s/o O Tomba of Thanga Karang, Laishram Gunamani Singh alias Guna (25) s/o L Rajen of Thanga Laishram Leikai and Thingujam Roshan alias Amo (25) s/o Th Ibobi of Kongpal Chandam Leikai.

One 9 mm pistol made in USA with one magazine loaded with 2 live rounds were recovered from the possession of Haobam Chaoba alias Tomba.

On spot verification, Haobam Chaoba disclosed that he joined PREPAK in June 1999 through one Moirangthem Nanao alias Chalamba (28) s/o M Modhumangol of Kongba Laishram Leikai, Oinam Chandrababu in June 2006 through Haobam Chaoba, Laishram Gunamani Singh in June 2007 and Thingujam Roshan in March 2007 through Laishram Gumanani.

Further, they confessed that they took active part in the firing of two rounds each at the house of one Muhindro of Kongpal Chandam Leikai and one Dwijamani of Nongmeibung Pung Makhong, the SP said.

On the other, the SP further said, a team of Imphal East Commandos arrested one PULF activist identified as Md Firoz alias Kaoba (22) s/o late Md Basir Ahamed of Keirao Mayai Leikai from near Kiyamgei bridge during frisking operation at around 5.45 am today.

On spot verification, he disclosed that he is now working in valley area for demanding money from the general public for raising party fund of PULF, the statement issued by the SP added.

Meanwhile SP of Imphal East has informed that a combined team of Imphal West District Police Commandos and 32 Assam Rifles personnel have arrested one KYKL activist acting on credible information during a cordon and house to house search operation in and around Heirangoithong Mutum Leirak at around 5.30 pm today.

The SP identified as the arrested KYKL activist has Sarangthem Jeky alias Inaocha Singh (22) s/o S Kumar Singh of Heirangoithong Mutum Leirak.

He was arrested from his house.

On preliminary interrogation, Jeky disclosed that he joined KYKL in 2nd week of February 2007 through one Santosh Singh (34)( and working under the command of S/S project office of Manipur University Department Naobi Singh (36) of KYKL.

He was assigned to collect money from the contractor of Manipur University for 10 percent of the work and collected Rs 70,000 in the 2nd week of March, 2007 for party fund, according to the SP.

A PLA cadre and a PREPAK cadre were apprehended by troops of 7/8 GR during an operation in Iroishemba area today.

The PLA cadre is identified as S/S Cpl M Bond Meitei (28) while the PREPAK cadre is one K Jeital Singh alias Lanjenba (30), said AR PRO in a press release.

In another incident, another PLA cadre identified as S/S L/Cpl Khaidem Ranjit (26) of Napeth Mayai Leikai was nabbed by troops of 21 AR from Napeth area yesterday.

He has been handed over to Kakching police station, added the release.
