The 150th commemorative function of the first war of India's independence fought against the British colonialism in 1857 was observed at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen, Palace Compound with Governor Dr SS Sidhu and Revenue Minister Th Debendra as chief guest and president respectively.

The function organised by the State Government commenced with rendition of the National Anthem by the band party of Manipuri Rifles and unfurling of the tri-colour flag by the Governor.
A Shumang Leela on the theme of the event was also staged at the occasion.
Delivering his address as chief guest of the commemorative function, Dr Sidhu began his speech in Manipuri and later on spoke in English.
He said while observing that 150th anniversary of the Ist war of independence, we, the present generation have to remember the history's lesson of 'United we stand, divided we fall'.
The valuable contribution made by those freedom fighters who laid down their lives and made supreme sacrifices for the freedom of the country will remain evergreen, he added.
Dr Sidhu further said India is today poised for faster growth in economic, industry, trade and telecommunication, etc apart from emerging as an important power in the geo-political world.
'Let us contribute out mite in our respective capacity towards this end so that India could become a developed nation by the year 2020', he exhorted the gathering.
Revenue Minister Th Debendra, who presided over the function, said the Ist war of India's independence is a significant event in the historical annals of the nation.
Everyone loves their motherland and those who sacrifice their lives for the sake of motherland are called martyrs, he noted.
