Dhyan Chand Awardee L Anita Chanu urges to lift ban on Sarita

While many sports personalities including the living cricket legend Sachin Tenduldar have extended their solidarity to State's ace pugilist Laishram Sarita who has been banned by AIBA following her refusal to accept medal in Incheon Asian Games over a controversial judgment, weightlifting coach and Dhyan Chand Awardee, Leisangthem Anita Chanu said that the behavior shown by Sarita in the Incheon Asian Games was due to anger in her mind following the controversial bout, while adding that that AIBA is a parent body for boxers of the country which is responsible for molding and safeguarding careers of boxers.
Talking exclusively to this newspaper.
Anita stated that Sarita had already tender apology for her behavior shown during the presentation of medals which is fair and acceptable.
However, AIBA debarred Sarita from participating in the 8th World Women Boxing Championship as a punishment.
This is not the right way to treat a sports player.
Her voices should be heard and give her a chance, she exclaimed.
Saying that Sarita has got a promising future career, she appealed to AIBA to lift the ban imposed against Sarita at the earliest and put the pugilist back to the ring again.
Meanwhile, a strong plea was made by an opposition member in the Lok Sabha today for efforts to avert a life ban on boxer L Sarita Devi from International Boxing Association for refusing her bronze medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Congress member Ranjit Ranjan said what has happened to Sarita Devi should not happen to any player as she was denied her due in the Games.
