Exiled activist visits native land after ten years

Thousands of people turned up to attend the reception programme of exiled Naga rights activist Luingam Luithui and his wife Pangamla today at TNL ground here.
The reception programme was organized by All Hunphun Tangs Chairmen and secretaries Association and NPHMR, Ukhrul.
Leaders of UNC, ANSAM, NPHMR and Naga Mothers' Union attended the programme.
Luingam Luithui and Peingamla Luithui who have been living in 'virtual'exile in Canada, have sought full restoration of their citizenship rights.
The couple were in India for a hearing at Delhi High Court on Nov 27 .
Luingam is from Langdang in Ukhrul district.
The two had been living in Canada for over a decade after the Government of India 'arbitrarily' impounded their passports.
Besides performing a ritual on their home coming after ten years in exile, a special prayer for the couple was also held during the programme.
Benjamin of Amnesty International, Canada Chapter, Collin Nicolas from Malaysia, Barbara, campaigner for indigenous people from Switzerland and Melani, filmmaker from Denmark have also accompanied the couple at Ukhrul to take stock of the indigenous people's issues.
Luithui is an internationally renowned advocate for civil rights and the rights of indigenous peoples.
He is one of the founders of both NPMHR and Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact.
