After a winning start (plate group) to the Mens U25 State A Trophy 2021-22 yesterday, Manipur suffered a huge 225 run loss to Assam today in the second match at Numalijalah Parade Ground, Amingaon, Guwahati.
Put in to bat first, Assam piled up a staggering total of 300 runs for 4 in their quota of 50 overs riding on half centuries by Denish Das (89), Saahil Jain (73) and Abhisek Tiwari (50) and restricted Manipur to just 75 runs for the emphatic win.
Denish Das smashed 4 fours and 1 six on his way to the highest 89 for Assam off 113 balls as Saahil Jain was unbeaten on 73 off 41 balls.
The innings saw Manipur's Kishan removing two wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs as Ch Ranjan and skipper Denin picked up a wicket apiece.
Manipur's chase however proved disastrous and had to wind up the innings on just 75 runs for all wickets down (except Bidash who was hurt) as Assam skipper Mrinmoy Dutta devastated the batting line up en route to his four wicket haul in 7 overs.
Mukhtar Hussain and Roshan Alam shared two wickets each to add teeth to Assam's bowling attack.
Nawaz (20 off 33 balls), Andyroshan (12 off 12 balls) and Bikash Singh (11 off 14 balls) were the only notable batters with double digit scores for Manipur.
