Imphal, November 18 2021:
As the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) launched its drive against non-locals with the objective to effectively enforce the ILP system, several non-locals were found without ILPS passes or with expired permits.
Raising serious concerns over the finding, JCILPS convener BK Moirangcha said that the violation of ILPS norms is akin to challenging the chief minister, the state government and its people.
The JCILPS team carried out the drive in Thangal Keithel area on Thursday.
They identified those without passes or with expired documents and handed them over to City police station for further legal actions.
According to BK Moirangcha, there are reports of several non-locals entering the state without getting the required ILP passes from the check posts located at Mao and Jiribam.
JCILPS carried out the drive following these reports, which turned out to be true, considering what they found out during the drive.
He then appealed to the personnel manning the ILP Check Posts in the border to be sincere in discharging their duties.
He also appealed to the state government and its authority concerned to check non-renewal of ILP passes and take up relevant actions.
He also urged non-locals to enter the state only after getting the required ILP passes and to renew their passes before expiry of the validity period.
The convenor then informed that the committee will carry out similar drives in different parts of the state and also urged rent owners to ensure their non-local tenants have ILP passes or ensure renewal of the retired passes within five days failing which stringent actions will also be taken up against the rent owners.
He further urged local clubs and Meira Paibi organisations to check non-locals entering their locality and inform JCILPS if they do not possess ILP passes.
