Gospel Youth Soccer kicks off in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, October 10 2011:
With an aims to bring up Gospel orientated sportspersons among the youth and to bring about multi- faceted revival among the youths through sports, the Youth Fellowship of Town Baptist Church Tamenglong today kicked off the 2nd Gospel Youth Soccer with Khangthuanang Panmei, MLA who is also the Vice Chairman HAC as Chief Guest at Mini Stadium Tamenglong.
The tournament was organised with an aim to help achieving excellence in sports, promote peace and unity among the people and bring better relationship among the different churches of the district and spiritually to evangelize and glorify the Almighty God through sports.
Altogether 39 teams from different denominations are participating this year.
Khangthuanang Panmei, MLA and Vice Chairman HAC formally opened the soccer tournament.
Speaking as Chief Guest MLA Khangthuanang Panmei said that the tournament is a platform to develop spiritually, physically and mentally.
He said there are many talented youths in the district but due to lack of facilities they could not come up to state level touraments.
Like sport persons in national games or Olympic game sport persons bring glory to the country, you should bring glory to your church.
He also urged the participants to play well and end well.
The champion team of the tournament will recieve a cash prize of Rs 25,000 along with medals and citation while runners up team will recieve Rs 15,000 cash prize along with medals and citation.
The four semi finalist teams will also recieve Rs 5000 cash prize while best player and top scorer will recieve Rs 2000 each.
In the opening match Chiulon Baptist Church- A beats Salom Luangdi Fellowship 5-4 in the penalty shoot outs.
The match ended draw with a scoreline of 1-1 in normal time.
