CM inaugurates market, lays foundation stone

Taking digs at the culture of party hopping and setting up camps, Chief Minister O Ibobi today questioned what the Councillors of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council have to gain by changing their political colours and setting up camps to demand the removal of the Chairperson of the Council.
The Chief Minister said this while addressing a public meeting held in after the inauguration of Imoinu market complex (Mayang Imphal market complex) and foundation stone laying ceremony of a 100 bedded hospital at Mayang Imphal, Imphal West.
The 100 bedded hospital is to be constructed by the PWD with funding from the Special Plan Assistance with the total amount pegged at Rs 50 crores.
Of the total amount, Rs 35 lakhs is meant for the building of the hospital while the remaining Rs 15 lakhs will go into the construction of the morgue and quarters of the doctors.
The Planning Commission has sanctioned Rs 5 crores to start the construction work of the hospital in the first phase.
The Imoinu market complex, was constructed with funding from MAHUD and the total amount was put at Rs 4.5 crores.
The PDA was given the task of constructing the market.
Comprised of two wings, the market complex has a total of 36 shops.
The Chief Minister also inspected the ongoing work of the Mayai Lambi Sports Academy.
The area has already produced three Arjuna Awardees.
Later addressing a public meeting at Mayang Imphal bazar, the Chief Minister questioned why Councillors of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council have to gain by demanding the ouster of the chairperson.
"There is a rule which says that the chairperson of a Municipal council cannot be removed within one year of assuming office," said the Chief Minister and questioned "What purpose does it serve by holding camps for 2/3 months.
Doesn't this amount to wasting money ?" .
If the chairperson is guilty of misusing public fund then he should be punished by the public, he observed.
Pitching in for the sitting MLA of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, the Chief Minister said that Ratankumar has done a lot for the Constituency and assured that he would be given the Congress ticket in the coming Assembly election.
Going into election mode, the Chief Minister said "No benefits can come in the way of an Opposition MLA.
The most he or she will get is some TA and DA allowances and would not be in a position to do anything concrete for the people.
Therefore it is best to elect someone who will be in power" .
Stating that the foundation stone of the hospital in line with the Cabinet decision to construct one hospital in each district, the Chief Minister said that this will remove the inconveniences of the people in coming to Imphal everytime someone falls sick.
MLA Ratankumar also pitched in for the Mayang Imphal Municipal Council chairperson and said that he is a man of integrity.
