Imphal, July 15 2022: Model Club, Chingamakha capped their Group A league campaign in the 6th MNCA W Prahlada and W Ramananda Elite Tournament with an 89 run victory against CRAU.

Courtesy a 64 run knock by Thoudam Deepak, Model Club gave CRAU a target of modest 207 runs losing 9 wickets and rode on Somorjit Salam's four wicket haul to bundle out CRAU for 117 runs for the third win in 5 matches here at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium.

After electing to bat first, Model Club got off to a smooth start with Yumnam Karnajit and Thoudam Deepak taking on CRAU bowlers.

Yumnam Karnajit however fell for 13 runs in the 6th over to Heishnam Joyhenba before Lamabam Ajay removed Kisan Wahengbam for 20 and M Langlonyamba for 10 to reduce Model to 79 for 3 in 17.3 overs.

Despite the pressure piling up, Thoudam Deepak held on and took Model past the 100 run mark but Khumanthem Prakash of CRAU succeeded in removing him for 64 runs in the 26th over.

CRAU looked to get hold of the innings after Deepak's departure and Khumanthem Prakash cruised to his second wicket removing Somorjit Salam for 9 in the 30th over but the 6th wicket partnership between Wahengbam Somorjit (35 not out) and Ronald Ningombam (19) helped Model Club gather 47 runs in 8 overs before Lamabam Ajay broke the partnership by removing Ronald for the 6th wicket in the 38th over.

Mehtab Jamal then bowled out Dibak Naorem for 11 and sent Suson Yanglem packing on duck in the second and third delivery of the 39th over to inflict further damage.

Wahengbam Somorjit and Thangjam Rishi (5) then took the total past the 200 run mark before Rishi fell to Lamabam Ajay in the last delivery of the innings (40 overs) .

Ajay eventually returned with best bowling figures of 4 for 35 in 8 overs which also contained a maiden as Mehtab Jamal and Khumanthem Prakesh ended with two wickets each.

In reply, Sanatomba (28) and I Nikhil (15) gave CRAU a promising start but things turned around with Somorjit Salam bowling out Nikhil in the 11th over.

Somorjit Salam went on to remove Khangembam Bimol on 1 and Mehtab Jamal on golden duck in the first two deliveries of the 13th over to leave CRAU struggling at 50 for 3 .

Dibak Naorem then bowled out Sanatomba K on 28 before Somorjit completed his four wicket haul by removing Potsangbam Ronil for 3.CRAU slumped continued with H Joyhenba (7) and Ph Jodash (0) departing cheaply and the team further sunk to 99 for 8 with Ayekpam Uttam getting run out for 15 in the 25th over.

The chase eventually came to a crashing end in 34.4 overs as Thangjam Rishi bowled out Lamabam Ajay for 4 and caught and bowled Takhellambam Kala (25) to return with bowling figures of 2 for 15 in 5.4 overs.

Somorjit Salam who scored 9 runs and picked four wickets was ultimately named man of the match.
