Workshop on fisheries and aquaculture held

Imphal, July 15 2022:
The College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, Tripura under Central Agricultural University, Imphal organised a one-day workshop on "Technology dissemination and capacity building for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture with local resources in Manipur" at the auditorium of the directorate of Fisheries, Lamphelpat on Friday.
Around 50 participants including 40 fish farmers from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts took part in the workshop, organised in association with Department of Fisheries.
The workshop is an initiative of CAU Imphal vice chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra.
College of Fisheries Tripura dean Prof Ratan Kumar Saha, CAU director of Research Dr S Basanta Singh and additional director (fisheries) Khamsing Ahum jointly inaugurated the workshop.
In his speech, Prof Ratan highlighted that objective of the workshop is to disseminate scientific technology in fisheries and aquaculture developed by College of Fisheries, Lembucherra under Centre of Excellence in Fisheries & Aquaculture Biotechnology project in order to promote capacity building for sustainable fisheries with local resources in Manipur.
Two technical sessions were held during the workshop.
In the first session, Prof Ratan delivered a lecture on 'CAU technologies in strengthening fisheries and aquaculture sector in North East - Role of College of Fisheries, CAU, Imphal'.
In the second session, College of Fisheries, Lembucherra assistant professor Dr Pradyut Biswas lectured on 'Mass seed production of Pengba (Osteobrama belangeri), Pabda (Ompok bimaculatus), Reba (C.reba)' and 'Fish feed development using local resources'.
College of Fisheries associate professor Dr Gushienzed Waikhom also delivered a lecture on 'Entrepreneurship opportunities in fisheries and aquaculture - Role of COF, Lembucherra' whereas Fisheries director H Balkrisna Singh joined the technical sessions and interacted with the participants and resource persons.
After the workshop, the participants visited the Central Fish Farm of Central Agricultural University at Lamphelpat and witnessed a demonstration of breeding of Pabda fish.
Thereafter, the team visited FRP Hatchery at the complex of DFO, Imphal West ana witnessed breeding
of Kuri fish (labeo gonius) .
