Rs.15 lakh properties lost in two fires

Imphal, February 09, 2011: In separate fires, properties worth over Rs.15 lakh belonging to a school and to one individual were reduced to ashes.

The fire that raged through a private school, Oxford English Academy, Phayeng Awang Leikai last night around 10 pm burnt properties worth around Rs.15 lakh belonging to the school.

Ten rooms along with furniture, five pigs, two generator sets, five television sets and one refrigerator were among the properties that the fire reduced to ashes.

Fire fighters from Imphal Fire Service Station rushed with three fire tenders to douse the fire in the private school run by Ngangom Yadav.

The origin of the fire is still uncertain.

The other fire that occurred at Wangkhei Angom Leikai in Imphal east this morning around 5 am.

The house belongs to Lourembam Rajendro.

Most parts of the two storey house with the wooden upper floor were damaged.

Fire fighters of Imphal Fire Service Station rushed with five fire tenders to put out the fire which was suspected to have broken out from an electric short-circuit.

Properties worth around Rs.5 lakh were estimated lost in the fire incident.
