Imphal, February 09, 2011: Two police personnel sustained injuries when they tried to overpower a man with a machete threatening passersby at Kakching today.

The incident occurred around 11 am at Kakching Super Market where Naorem Somorjit (37) son of Lalabi of Kakching Wairi was extorting money from passersby by threatening them with his machete.

He also snatched a camera of a photographer clicking photos for a wedding.

Locals have said, the man has mental problems.

Two armed police personnel from the Kakching PS tried to overpower him.

The man chopped at the two personnel, Moirangthem Robindro (25) of Khongjom Awang Leikai and Thongam Sanjit (26) of Thoubal Khekman.

They sustained injuries in their heads and hands.

Later, people at the market caught the man and handed him over to his family.

The two injured police personnel were hospitalized at Kakching Community Health Centre.
