Imphal, February 09, 2011: Manipur has become the first state in the country to start collection of biometrics for preparation of NPR (National Population Register) along with population enumeration of census 2011, a statement of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal claimed.

The second phase of census of India 2011-population enumeration has started from February 9. It will continue till February 28 with a revision round from March 1 to 5, 2011. The NPR will create an identity data base, help in targeting public service and better planning and strengthen national security, the statement added.
