Imphal, March 26 2025:
The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, has granted bail to two teachers, Samadram Meghachandra Singh and Yumnam Ranjit Singh, who were accused of leaking a social science question paper for the recent High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) .
They were granted bail on March 24, with the condition of furnishing a bond of Rs 2 lakh each and providing a Government employee's bail bond of the same amount.
The accused teachers are from Little Star English Higher Secondary School, with Meghachandra being a Social Science teacher and Yumnam Ranjit Singh serving as the school's Vice-Principal.
They were arrested some days after the question paper was leaked ahead of the exam on February 25 .
During the bail hearing, the defence counsel highlighted the teachers' dedication to their work and their role as sole breadwinners for their families, including their elderly parents.
The defence counsel also argued that the accused teachers have health issues requiring a hygienic lifestyle and regular medical check-ups.
Additionally, they have no prior criminal records or history of offenses, not even minor ones, according to the defence counsel.
On the other hand, the State's APP countered that the two accused teachers played a key role in leaking the question paper and they have admitted the charges levelled against them.
The APP further said that the mobile phones seized from the accused need to be thoroughly analyzed to determine the extent of cybercrime involvement.
Since the phones haven't been sent to the Forensic Department for expert analysis, releasing the accused on bail could compromise the investigation, the APP added while praying before the Court to reject the bail application.
The Court after hearing the submission of defence counsel and the APP and on perusal of the case record approved the bail application.
The Court, however, ruled that the accused teachers should not threaten, contact or induce any of the prosecution witnesses and make themselves available for interrogation as and when required.
