Imphal, June 09:
In protest against re-posting of T Thoiba as the Principal of Imphal College, the Imphal College Teachers' Association (ICTA) staged a one day hunger strike today at the gate of the college.
Since T Thoiba was re-transferred to Imphal College on May 29, the ICTA has been abstaining from practical examinations conducted under Manipur University from the next day.
ICTA secretary S Noren alleged that T Thoiba has little concern for development of the college nor does he care for vital documents of the college.
Saying that the NAC has been monitoring utilisation of funds sanctioned by UGC for development of colleges, Noren informed that NAC has been monitoring development programmes being taken up in DM College of Sciences, DM College of Arts and United College, Chandel.
Authorities of these colleges are able to furnish detail reports of utilisation of funds sanctioned to them but the Imphal College authority has been unable to produce any such report, he asserted.
At a time when a great revolution on education system has swept across the world, there has been no effort from the Principal to bring such changes in the college, he lamented.
Even though it is the responsibility of each college to prepare proposals which should be taken up under 11th Plan of the UGC and the likely rectifications deemed necessary to realise Vision 2020, Imphal College has been unable to draft the proposals and to identify the areas which need rectifications, Noren disclosed.
He maintained that the ICTA would not accept any individual who has little concern for the interest of students and development of college as Principal.
