Imagi Meira serves ultimatum to Govt

Imphal, September 27 2026: Imagi Meira president Thokchom Sujata has urged the State Government to find solutions to various issues confronting Manipur by the end of October or the Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers should step down from their posts.

Sujata made the statement during a joint press conference organised by Imagi Meira and womenfolk of Thangmeiband at the Manipur Press Club here, today.

Speaking to the media, Sujata said eight innocent Naga villagers had been killed in different incidents and more than 80 houses had been burned down in the hill districts of the State in the last seven days.

She said that the situation on the ground continued to deteriorate in Manipur despite the Government's repeated calls for peace.

Sujata said people had expected some positive changes in the State after the formation of the new Government following the withdrawal of President's Rule.

However, she claimed that the situation has instead worsened.

She pointed out that the present Chief Minister and Home Minister had been Cabinet Ministers in the previous Government too before President's Rule and questioned their ability to effectively run the Government.

She also alleged that the present Government has failed to expand the Cabinet and is instead focusing mainly on schemes and programmes.

Regarding the Census, Sujata said the public had been informed that the exercise in the State had been deferred, but the Government has not made it clear for how long. She urged the State Government to address issues including updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Census, communal tension, the prevailing unrest in the hill areas and abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants.

Sujata warned that the Chief Minister and other Cabinet Ministers should resign from their respective posts if the Government fails to find amicable solutions to these issues by the end of October.

She also alleged that opposition MLAs in the State had been taking up agitations and protests at the direction of their Central leadership.

She urged the Opposition legislators to take into account the prevailing situation and issues of the State and act in accordance with the aspirations of the people.
