Imphal, September 27 2026: Alleging that the State Government has failed to protect the lives and properties of the indigenous people of Manipur, Save Indigenous People of Manipur (SIPOM), Joint Tribe Council (JTC), Indigenous People Forum (IPF), YPPM and GS-RNLPM (IL) have demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister.

Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club yesterday, JTC convenor Merajao Inka claimed that the ongoing crisis in Manipur is caused by the influx of illegal immigrants.

He also said that several Liangmai Nagas, Tangkhul Nagas, Rongmei Nagas, Meeteis and a Chiru individual had been killed since the formation of the new State Government.

Two sleeping children were killed while they were sleeping in a terror attack at Tronglaobi, he said, adding that 12 Liangmai Nagas, six Tangkhul Nagas, two Rongmei Nagas and one Chiru individual had been killed in armed attacks since the onset of the Naga-Kuki clash.

Three Thadou Pastors who stood for Manipur's territorial integrity were also killed in an ambush in Kangpokpi, he added.

He went on to state that 139 Meiteis had been killed, while 32 others remain missing amid the ongoing crisis in the State.

Alleging that illegal immigrants and their associates have been carrying out violent activities against the indigenous people of the State, Merajao claimed that there are also attempts to drive Liangmai Nagas out of the Koubru hill range.

He added that several Liangmai Naga villages have been attacked by illegal immigrants, including Thonglang Naga Village, Langka, Tokpa Liangmai Naga, Liangmai Taphou, Tapon Khullen, Tapon Khunou, Makui Pipuram, Chawangkining, Makui Chamriupiu, Makui Thanamba and Makui Thebram, with more than 100 houses torched.

Merajao said that four Tangkhul Naga civilians were also killed recently at Pilong village in Kamjong district in an attack carried out by Kuki armed groups operating from Myanmar.

In a similar incident, he claimed that a Myanmar-based Kuki group launched a coordinated attack on Namlee, Wanglee and Z Choro in Kamjong district on May 7, 2026 .

Saying that people have been urging the Government to deploy adequate State security forces in vulnerable villages along the Indo-Myanmar border, he alleged that the Government, however, had failed to even acknowledge that the cross-border attacks were carried out by Kuki armed groups based in Myanmar.

He alleged that the illegal immigrants are still attempting to seize villages in border areas by driving out the local residents to gain control over border trade, similar to what had happened in the Moreh area in the early 1990s .

Saying that the threat posed by illegal immigrants to the indigenous people is immense, Merajao claimed that the Government, instead of protecting the indigenous people, has been acting against those demanding their protection.

As such, it would not be wrong to assume that the Government has been acting against the interests of the indigenous people, he said.
