Inmates from three homes for destitute children staged a Wakat Meepham in front of the Children Home run by Manipur Kalyan Samiti at Chingmeirong Kabo Leikai today demanding immediate release of Sanjoy and Kenedy and urging to stop trafficking children and deny their rights.
Apart from inmates from the Children Home run by Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti, the Destitute Children Home at Lei-Ingkhol and Girls' Centre Home, Thangmeiband, founder members and staff of Mahila Kalyan Samiti also participated in the Wakat Meepham.
It may be noted here that the whereabouts of two inmates from the Children Home of Mahila Kalyan Samiti namely Moirangthem Kenedy (12) of Bishnunaha and Sagolsem Sanjoy (12) of Khongjom Bazar have not been known after they were suspected to have been called out by some persons on May 1 last.
One Sunil, who is said to be among the three suspects arrested by the police in connection with the case, had allegedly told the authorities of the Home and the family members that the two missing children are in the custody of an underground organisation and they would be released within May 11.However, the two children have not yet been released and their whereabouts not known till date.
Placards with slogans like 'Release Sanjoy and Kenedy immediately', 'We demand to know the identity of the organisation responsible for abducting them', 'Don't think of abolishing the Children Home by abducting its inmates', 'Children Home is for the public', 'Don't deny the rights of the children', 'Hand over Sanjoy and Kenedy to the Children Home', 'Minor children should not be used in war as per article 38 of CRC of UN', etc were seen being put up at the protest site.
While seeking the co-operation of all the civil societies in Manipur including social organisations for securing the safe release of the two children, the authorities of the Children Home have also announced their decision of continuing the agitation till the two children have been set free and handed over to the children home.
