Nongdrenkhomba murder case : NIA submits supplementary charge sheet

Imphal, January 04 2018: National Investigation Agency (NIA) submitted additional charge sheet against two co-accused in connection with the murder of PREP AK ex-chairman and his driver, before Special Court NIA Manipur, today.

The additional charge sheet was submitted by Chief Investigation Officer, SP, NIA, New Delhi, Ankrit Garg against accused Sairom Rabichandra (36) s/o Ahanbi of Uripok Yambem Leikai and S Basanta (38) of Tera Sapam Leirak in connection with the murder of PREPAK ex-chairman Ningombam Nabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba and his driver, Leishangthem Sanjit, inside Manipur Rifles quarters at Khabeisoi in the intervening night of June 21 and 22, 2016.Sairom Rabichandra was arrested from his residence by an NIA team on July 10, last year (for allegedly supplying the weapons used in the crime), just a few days after NIA Guwahati submitted charge sheets against 5 accused of the case on July 7.As a follow up of the case, Sapam Basanta was arrested by the NIA team on July 16, 2017 and two small arms were also recovered from his possession.

On December 16, 2017, Special Court NIA Manipur, framed charge sheets against four accused, Thokcihom Gouri alias Ibungo alias Konsam (25) s/o Th Ibomcha of Wangoo Sandangkhong, Haobam Ahead alias Lemba (40) s/o (L) K Danikumar of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, Ahongsangbam Kingson alias Yaiphaba (23) of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai and Laichonbam Naocha alias Malangba (24) s/o L Basanta of Sugnu Wangpokpi Mamang Leikai, after continuous hearing of the case on November 2, 24 and December 7.Another co-accused of the case, Urikhinbam Budhichandra alias Budhi alias Poirei (who is still absconding) was split from the case by an order of the Court on October 16.In the previous charge sheets submitted by NIA Guwahati, it was mentioned that in the month of April 2016, Urikhinbam Budhichandra conspired with Thongbram Sanjit to kill Nongdrenkhomba, the ex-chairman of PREPAK, who was staying at a designated camp of surrendered militants inside 7 Manipur Rifles complex at Khabeisoi.

They hired Ahongsangbam Kingson and Laichombam Naocha for carrying out the crime.

It further mentioned that Th Gouri asked Th Sanjit to supply the weapons and so, Sanjit contacted S Basanta to make necessary arrangements for the weapons.

Thereafter, Basanta told Sanjit to collect the weapons from an unknown individual from Uripok Yambem Leikai.

After collecting the weapons, Th Budhi handed them over to Ahongsangbam Kingson and Laichombam Naocha.

Then on June 21, 2016, at around 7.30 pm, when one London, who was staying with Nabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba went away to his native village and a festival was being celebrated inside 7 Manipur Rifles complex, the two accused Ahongsangbam Kingson and Laichombam Naocha went inside the quarters and executed the ex-chairman of PREPAK and his driver.

Special Court NIA Manipur has fixed the charge sheet hearing of the case on January 20 .
