ICHAM felicitates 'robot' maker Nandalal

Imphal, January 04 2018: Thiyam Nandalal, a Class XI student of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal who made John 2017 (a robot made of discarded materials) and achieved 1st position at the State Level Science Exhibition, 2017 for making a robot model was felicitated today.

He will be representing Manipur along with 19 other students/exhibitors from the State in the Eastern India Science Fair at Kolkata later this month.

A felicitation programme was organised by the Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) at Johnstone School today.

ICHAM's chief advisor Kangujam Madhumangol, its advisors BB Sharma, Khogendro Khomdram (also the Editor of The Sangai Express, Manipuri edition), Brozendro Ningomba (also ISTV's Editor), Khelen Thokchom (also The Telegraph's correspondent), Thongam Phulchand (also president of the Thongam Angouba Singh Memorial Trust) besides N Rajendro, former president ICHAM, Th Kirankumar, Director, Education (S), M Jadumani Mangang, Principal, Johnstone Higher Secondary School and A Sangita, Vice Principal, Johnstone Higher Secondary School attended the function as presidium members.

Speaking at the function, Th Kirankumar lauded the ICHAM for extending support to Thiyam Nandalal in the creation of his robot and further requested the organisation to extend more support to other students in the State and even beyond academic line.

He opined that children in the State will excel if they are taken to the right platform with proper support and guidance.

The director also urged teachers in the State to execute their duties and responsibilities while asking all sections of the society to point out the mistakes of his department.

Khogendro described Nandalal's robot creation as a unique and significant achievement in the field of science while mentioning such invention using discarded materials is rare and may be the first of its kind although many high quality and top class robots have been made using scientific materials in the past.

He also expressed his desire to preserve John 2017 as a memento of scientific achievement.

The Editor also sought people's encouragement and support for Nandalal for his future course of innovation.

Rajendro conveyed that ICHAM has been endeavouring to bring closer hill and valley people for many years with its members travelling to more than 400 villages in hill areas and narrating their stories to the society through media.

He also maintained that his organisation's effort, has achieved success to some extent stating communal antagonism among many communities in the State had declined considerably.

He expressed happiness that Nandalal, despite the chaotic circumstances and multiple social issues in the State, had created the robot.

Nandalal while speaking at the function said that his creation had not met his satisfaction and conveyed that he will be putting in extra efforts for more progress in the future.

He also demonstrated his robot during the function.

ICHAM and teachers of Johnstone Higher Secondary School also endorsed financial assistance to Nandalal at the function.
