Imphal, December 19 2010:
In view of the recent hijacking of FCI trucks at Nonei area of Tamenglong district on December 14, security has been beefed up at Noney by setting up additional post and patrolling of market area is being carried out round the clock, said a PIB (DW) release.
Asserting that strict instructions have been issued to 26 Assam Rifles to take prompt action against such offenders, the release noted that on December 14 activists of NSCN (IM) forcibly stopped six FCI trucks carrying essential commodities and emptied the contents.
NSCN (IM) has no authority to stop/detain vehicles and check them and if they repeat such an act in future, strict action will be taken against them, cautioned the PIB (DW) release which also described as false and baseless the contention by one Alung Rongmei of the rebel outfit that the seized items including 231 bags of rice and 60 bags of cement were handed over by them to the 26 AR.
In fact, it is 26 AR during its search operation on December 15 that led to detection of rice and cement bags stolen by NSCN (IM) and hidden in a warehouse in Noney market and reported the matter to the authorities, the release said and reiterated that such illegal acts will not be tolerated by the security forces and strict action will be taken against such perpetrators.
