Lions Club International district governor Dr Animesh Baruah today visited Lions Clubs working in the State.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this evening, Dr Animesh Baruah presented an explicit report about lionism and the various projects being taken up in Manipur.
Dr Baruah said that Lions Club International is the biggest club in the world dedicated to humanitarian service.
LCI has 1.3 million people spread across 215 countries.
Manipur has 12 Lions Clubs including five at Imphal.
In terms of member strength, India is only next to the USA.
The Lions Clubs have been working in the fields of health care, environment, HIV/AIDS and other social services.
The LCI has also been paying special attention to vision correction, detection of cervical/breast cancer, the district governor said.
Moreover, the LCI has been extending assistance to destitute homes and school students.
Talking about the expenditure incurred in rendering various humanitarian services, Dr Baruah said that each and every member contributed money according to their capacity.
