Cabinet says no to re-engagement of Retd Govt officials

Government spokesperson and Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh said the State Cabinet has decided to discontinue re-engagement of retired Government employees in different departments, with the exception of some technical posts.
The Minister was briefing media persons at his official quarters this evening.
The decision was taken during a State Cabinet meeting held earlier in the evening at the CM's Secretariat with Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the chair.
The Minister said that the decision was taken considering opposition from different sections including Government employee associations on the ground that re-engagement of retired officials blocks promotion line of deserving junior officials.
The State Cabinet also resolved to restore the public transport system in the State and added that detailed modalities will be deliberated in the next Cabinet meeting, he said.
The Minister further explained that this will not only help improve movement of people from one place to another but will also underline the presence of a Government in the State.
Biswajit said the Cabinet has also decided to look into the complaints regarding the administration of Manipur Bhawans in different States of the country.
The Cabinet also approved to depute Deputy Resident Commissioners in all Manipur Bhawans, he added.
The Cabinet, he said, discussed how to explore the talents available in the State and decided to initiate a skill development mission under the Prime Minister Kaushal Vikas Yojana to improve the economy of every family as well as provide livelihood to everyone.
Further briefing the media persons, the Minister also said that another issue which was seriously deliberated upon in the Cabinet meeting was the border issue.
He said Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured that the State government will not allow loss of the State's territory.
He continued that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already been apprised on the border issue and added that all steps will be taken up to protect the territory of the State.
He said steps have also been taken up to fight corruption in the State to help the poor and to bring a balanced development by reaching out equally to both the hills and the valley of the State.
The Minister said the Government will also look into any injustice meted out to the people and take proper action after considering the issue in the Cabinet.
He explained that the Cabinet has approved providing a suitable job to a woman identified as Moirangthem (o) Imem Devi wife of (L) M Rupachandra Singh, who was earlier denied a job under the die-in- harness.
He said the Cabinet has also decided to look into the lack of teachers in Kasturba Gandhi Memorial School.
