Training course begins

A 6-day training course on "Technological interventions for improving productivity and profitability of farmers by existing IFS models" was inaugurated today at the conference hall, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Imphal.
The programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Churachandpur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre and was graced by Dr H Chaoba Singh, Director, Directorate of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandary, Government of Manipur, Dr Narendra Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Dr IM Singh, Principle Scientist, ICAR Manipur Centre and Dr Niranjan Lal, programme co-ordinator, KVK-Churachand- pur as presidium members.
Altogether, 20 veterinary surgeons and assistant veterinary field officers of Veterinary Department, Government of Chhattisgarh are participating in the training programme.
The training course will include lecture programmes and field visits.
During the inaugural Programme, Dr L Babita Devi, ACTO Animal Science KVK Churachandpur highlighted the main purpose of the training course.
Dr IM Singh said that integrated farming system is very important for combating the climate change scenario.
He also said that the land holding capacity of NEH region is very small and as a result, IFS is the only option for increasing the socio-economic status of the farmers of the region.
Dr H Chaoba Singh said that IFS system is an integral part of NEH farmers since time immemorial.
Dr N Prakash also spoke on the importance and benefits of integrated farming system in NEH States particularly in Manipur and added animal-based farming is more important in hilly areas than in valley.
In NE region, IFS system has been practicing since time immemorial.
Hence, there is no incident of farmer suicide like in other parts of the country, he said.
