Imphal, March 08 2025:
An approach to the district administration for adequate assistance has landed five displaced families in trouble.
The families have been staying at Utlou prefabricated house, and the heads of the families recently approached the district administration demanding adequate assistance.
While the district administration heard and expedited their request, the five families have now been asked to vacate the camp.
They have been served "transfer orders" by the camp authority asking them to shift to other camps, said an internally displaced person at the Utlou camp on the condition of anonymity.
The source claims the five families have been treated unfairly and they need the assistance of the authorities concerned.
The source said, a few days ago, the IDPs approached the district administration asking for assistance and all amenities that have been sanctioned by the Centre.
After their approach to the district administration, about 60 displaced families at the camp received cooking gas.
"While the left out families were waiting for the same benefit, 'transfer orders' were suddenly issued against five heads of the families who had approached the district administration, asking them to vacate the camp and shift to other camps," said the source.
The source further alleged that the families have not been provided any reason for issuing the transfer order against them.
"Regarding the transfer, a meeting was also held today between the families, relief camp volunteers, Nodal Officer and Nambol PS OC.
After the meeting, the five heads of families were instructed by the Nambol PS OC to vacate," said the source.
While the families asked the relief camp authorities to give them time to discuss the matter with the Displaced Persons' Welfare Committee, they have been asked to vacate within 10 days.
Due to stress and shock, the wife of one of the heads of the families fainted today and she was taken to RIMS Hospital, said the source.
The five displaced families need the assistance and support of authorities concerned.
They must not be targeted and abused for demanding their rights, added the source.
