Imphal, May 02 2024:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) has urged people to retrospect and show their wisdom and courage to steadfastly denounce violence and promote peace by observing May 3 as "Manipur Peace Day" this year and in the future.
A press release issued by the Ministry of Information, Media & Broadcasting, TSA-GHQ has stated that Thadou thinkers and the TSA have decided to observe May 3 as "Manipur Peace Day" in memory of all the victims of violence and to promote peace.
TSA has taken inspiration from the annual observance of August 6, the day Hiroshima was bombed with the world's first atomic bomb on August 6, 1945 during World War II, as "Hiroshima Peace Day" by the Japanese to remember the loss of more than 1.5 lakh lives in the world's most tragic bombing and to denounce war and promote global peace, added the statement.
The press release also pointed out that the Thadou community who have no political agenda have been the most affected by the Manipur violence.
Thus, TSA has urged people to focus now on bringing back peace and normalcy, keeping aside their differences and the different political demands which should rather be pursued through non-violence and other democratic and political means.
The TSA statement further requested all aggrieved parties to rethink if commemorating the day in manners that are antagonistic to each other's community would either benefit the society in the long run or instead prolong conflict and bring more harm to the present society and future generations.
"Manipur has had enough violent conflicts in the past from which we need to learn a lesson on the evil and futility of violence and communalism", TSA asserted.
