Drafting committee's first sitting held ; Govt reaches out to all stake holders

Even as the first sitting of the Government constituted drafting committee for a new ILPS Bill has been held today, necessary arrangements are being made to invite opinions from all the stake holders regarding the issue, said Law and Legislative Affairs Minister Thoudam Debendra.
Speaking to reporters in his office chamber at Manipur Secretariat, Th Debendra, who is the chairman of the drafting committee, said that the suggestions and opinions of all the stake holders would be considered and serious efforts are being made to complete drafting the new Bill within a month.
He said that the committee would meet the representatives of High Court Bar Association, Manipur and All Manipur Bar Association at 4 pm on July 25 while JCILPS representatives have been offered to join the committee as the co-opted members.
The Minister further said that the Government is also making all necessary efforts to hold talks with the JCILPS representatives.
Th Debendra, who is the chairman of the drafting committee, said that the committee had studied the relevant documents of Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram today.
He also urged all concerned to extend co-operation in making the new Bill a historic one, which has Constitutional validity and acceptable to the President and Governor.
The Minister also sought co-operation from the media regarding the matter.
Informing that the committee is planning to have its sittings on a daily basis, Th Debendra said that the Government is putting in efforts to amend MLR & LR Act and Labour Laws as well.
Appealing to all concerned to concentrate on drafting and subsequent passing of the new Bill, Debendra urged JCILPS to extend co-operation in this regard.
In the wake of the widespread mass protest, MRVTMW Bill 2015 was withdrawn by the State Legislative Assembly on July 15 .
After holding rounds of meeting of CLP and all political parties, the State Cabinet resolved to constitute the five-member drafting committee yesterday.
Although, JCILPS has served a deadline to the Government to draft and pass a new ILPS Bill within 15 days, the Government has sought one month time from JCILPS and people of the State.
