Imphal, July 22 2015 :
With the State Government getting ready to draft a fresh Bill as announced earlier, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has called a public meeting tomorrow at 11 am at Iboyaima Shumang Shanglen to minutely discuss the steps the Government has so far taken up on the question of implementing the Inner Line Permit System in the State.
In a statement, the assistant media co-ordinator of JCILPS , Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum, stated that the time has come for the people to take a collective stand on the issue.
Justifying the public meeting as well as the plan to take a collective stand, the JCILPS said that the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill (MRVTMW) was passed in the Assembly against the wishes and aspirations of the people.
As such it is important for everyone to get involved in deciding what course of action should be adopted if the Government again decides to come out with such a half baked Bill.
Moreover the JCILPS is of the firm view that any decision that is taken should be taken jointly with the people, said the statement and urged the people to attend the meeting and contribute their thoughts.
Moreover it is also important to keep up the movement for it would be unwise to blindly believe the assurances of the Government, said JCILPS and added that the primary objective is to save the indigenous people.
As such the people should continue with the democratic course of agitation.
Squarely blaming the Government for the present state of affairs, JCILPS said that the demand to enact a Bill to protect the indigenous people dates back many years.
However instead of listening to the genuine voice of the people, the Government has been trying to sidestep the issue.
If only the Government had acted promptly and included the suggestions of the All Political Party, the five points submitted by leaders of JCILPS and ILP Committee in the MRVTMW Bill then all the unsavoury incidents could have been avoided.
As such it is important to keep a close tab on the next course of action the Government is set to take, it added.
