Imphal, May 02 2024:
In a move towards fostering a healthier and cleaner community while raising awareness about the detrimental effects of deforestation and climate change, Assam Rifles organised a 'Tree Plantation Drive' at Saibol Joupi village in Chandel district on Wednesday.
A release by PRO IGAR (S) informed that during the drive, 500 saplings were planted across the village with active participation of the locals.
Alongside the plantation drive, educational sessions were also conducted to enlighten the attendees, particularly the youth, about the pivotal role trees play in maintaining a balanced ecosystem, mentioned the PRO, who also quoted Indian environmentalist Sunderlal Bahuguna's "When trees are cut down, the water in the springs and streams disappears and the climate changes".
The drive echoes his sentiments, underscoring the urgent need for collective action in safeguarding our environment for future generations, it added.
