Imphal, August 22 2026:
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today inaugurated a mechanised rotary parking facility at Nagamapal, near the Chungkham Leirak entry.
It is reported that the facility was constructed at a cost of Rs 8.40 crore and has a parking capacity of 42 cars and 78 two-wheelers.
Similar facilities are proposed to be set up at three other locations in Imphal.
However, no final decision has been taken regarding where the other facilities will be established.
Addressing the inaugural function, Khemchand stated that development in the State will not be possible without peace and peace could not be achieved without dialogue among communities.

Saying that he had seen Facebook posts criticising him for holding talks with Kuki groups, he questioned how peace could be restored without dialogue and added that he had been holding discussions with all stakeholders concerned as prolonging the crisis would benefit no community.
The Chief Minister said that people should not only criticise but also appreciate efforts taken to restore normalcy in the State.
He stressed the need for positive thinking and collective efforts to bring about development in society.
He also called upon local residents and members of the bazar community to extend their cooperation to ensure the proper functioning of the mechanised rotary parking facility.
Delivering his presidential speech, Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency MLA Khumukcham Joy-kisan highlighted the difficulties faced by people due to the limited parking space in the market area.
He said the Government had taken up the construction of the parking facility to address the issue and lauded the Chief Minister's initiative to resume bus services in the State.

Regarding the scarcity of potable water in Thangmeiband, Joykisan Singh said the issue would be resolved soon under the guidance of the Chief Minister.
Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel said the inauguration of the mechanised rotary parking system marks an important milestone for Imphal.
He said it was the first of four such facilities proposed across the city.
He added that, like other capital cities, Imphal is facing increasing pressure on parking space due to rapid urbanisation and the growing number of vehicles, resulting in a greater demand for organised parking facilities.
