Noted poet Sorokhaibam Gambhini from Tripura has won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2023 in the poetry category (Manipuri language) for her book 'Yachangba Nang Hallo' .
'Yachangba Nang Hallo' is a 120 page book containing 80 poems published by Tripura Bani Prakashani.
So far, Sorokhaibam Gambhini has written three poetry books, namely, 'Hanglakkanu Wahang Adu', 'Biday! Kangleipak Biday!' and 'Yachangba Nang Hallo' .
The poet has also previously been accorded with honours such as the Kamini Kumar Gold Medal (2010) and the Leihao-Tembi Memorial Award (2008) .
Sorokhaibam Gambhini has an MA in Sanskrit and is currently serving as Warden of PG Women's Hostel at Tripura Central University.
She has expressed great joy at being announced as a recipient of the illustrious award.
Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages today where 9 books of poetry, 6 novels, 3 essays and 1 literary study were announced as recipients of the award.
The annual literary award comes in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.
The awards will be presented to the awardees at the award presentation function set to be held on March 12, 2024 at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi.
Sorokhaibam Gambhini is one among 24 writers who were announced as winners of the coveted Sahitya Akademi Award 2023 today.
