Manipur above average in implementing NEP: Education Minister

Education minister Th Basanta Kumar has stated that Manipur is leading among the states in the implementation process of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.He made the statement as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a two-day national conference on 'National Education Policy 2020: Opportunities and the Way Forward', organised jointly by Manipur University (MU), Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Manipur University of Culture (MUC), HIT Manipur, Directorate of University & Higher Education, and Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan Manipur Chapter, at the auditorium of MU on Wednesday.
Minister Basanta continued that Manipur is above average when it comes to implementation of NEP 2020.While there are some infrastructure challenges when it comes to implementation, preparation will be made to address the challenges through 'College Phagathanshi', slated for launch next week by the chief minister.
Stating that staff shortage will be addressed through the Manipur Public Service Commission, he emphasised the importance of education for Viksit Bharat 2047, especially with regard to Manipur.
Reflecting on the cancellation of CBSE affiliation of some schools in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, he recounted that after learning about some schools receiving CBSE affiliation without for possessing No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government, a detailed meeting was held with CBSE, secretary to India on December 17, following which the affiliation was annulled the next day.
Additionally, it was urged not to grant affiliation to any school in Manipur without following the proper procedure, he conveyed, while informing that the government is working to punish the officials or individuals involved in the case.
As part of the inauguration, a scheme titled, 'Cheingaak Khonghou', for students of higher education institutions suffering from HIV/Hepatitis B/Hepatitis C was also launched.
The first day of the conference was attended by MU VC Prof N Lokendra, Inter University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi director Prof Avinash Pandey, Tripura University VC Prof GP Prasain, DMU VC Prof N Rajmuhon, CAU dean Prof Indira Sarangthem, MUC VC Prof Paonam Gunindro, HIT Manipur director Prof Krishnan Baskar, MTU VC H Gyan Prakash, and IGNOU, New Delhi pro-VC Prof Kiran Hazarika among others.
