CM notes need of Law University

Chief Minister N Biren Singh today inaugurated the G+3 Annexe Building for the Court of District & Sessions Judge at Thoubal Court complex, today.
Addressing the inaugural function as the chief guest, the Chief Minister highlighted the need to establish a Law University in the State.
Stating that judiciary is one of the major pillars of democracy, the Chief Minister welcomed Justice Siddharth Mridul on his appointment as the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.
He further applauded Judge of High Court of Manipur Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, and said her appointment is a pride for the entire State.
The State Government has been putting in all efforts to fill any requirement in the law sector despite the financial constraint, the Chief Minister added.
Manipur has around 1.5 lakh drug users, N Biren Singh said and added that drug menace can be totally eradicated from Manipur if more people support the War on Drugs campaign.
Saying that Manipur is passing through a crucial time 'but we have almost overcome it with the support of the masses,' the Chief Minister continued that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gives special priority to Manipur and wants to develop the State.
Justice Siddharth Mridul said that one of the most important aspects of maintaining the rule of law is the provision of access to justice.
"Access to justice for all the residents of the State of Manipur will only become a reality if we have adequate infrastructure," he said.
He also said they are looking forward to a paperless Court system where litigants can access the Court through video conferencing from even the remotest corner of the State" .
He added that every citizen should have access to the Court system 24x7.The inaugural function was also attended by Law & Legislative Affairs Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, Judges of High Court of Manipur Justice A Bimol Singh, A Guneshwar Sharma, Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, Ld Advocate General, Manipur Lenin Singh Hijam and Law Commissioner Nungshitombi Athokpam among others.
