Kuki militants continue to rain bullets on villages at foothills

Kuki militants continued to launch attacks on villages in the peripheral areas of the valley in Bishnupur, Imphal West and Kangpokpi district today.
While there has been no confirmed casualties or offiical report, reliable sources said at least five Kuki militants have been killed after they launched an attack at Khoijumantabi area in Bishnupur district today.
Notably, Khoijumantabi is a sensitive place where Kuki militants had killed three Meitei village volunteers in a midnight attack on the intervening night of July 1 and 2 .
On the other hand, well armed Kuki militants, supported by village defence volunteers fired indiscriminately at Meitei settlement areas at Chanbirok and Leikinthabi area from Luwang Sangol and Phaileng hill range in the morning.
The militants carried out the attack using sophisticated weapons and bombs early in the morning.
Village volunteers guarding Meitei settlements retaliated using licensed guns.
Amid the intermittent attacks carried out by the Kuki militants, a large number of village volunteers converged in the area and an attempt was made to drive away the militants from the hill range and break their offensive.
A large force of police personnel rushed to the spot and conducted a massive search operation to nab the militants.
While gunfight in the periphery continued till late evening, there is no confirmed report of anyone injured till the time of filing this report.
On the other hand, one village volunteer who sustained bullet injury on his face in Kuki militants' attack yesterday evening is being treated under ventilation in the ICU of Raj Medicity after operation.
His condition is critical, said doctors.
