Imphal, June 21 2010:
Killing of a government officer by suspected militants was protested by people of Oinam area in Bishnupur district Monday with a rally.
They also imposed a 12-hour bandh on the Imphal-Churachandpur section of NH-39 .
Miscreants shot dead an assistant horticulture officer of the Manipur horticulture and soil conservation department, Nongthombam Sharat hailing from Oinam Leikai under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district last night at about 7.30 pm.
The officer who was hit by a bullet in the face succumbed to his injury after around two hour of struggle for life at Shija Hospital, Imphal were he was referred from RIMS hospital when his condition become serious.

Family suspected activists of KYKL behind the killing of the officer.
Wife of the deceased cried that before her husband was shot at after calling out from inside the house, he told her that they were activists of KYKL.
Gunmen called out him from the house on the pretext of having talks on certain matter and pumped him with a bullet in the face, she cried.
Strongly decrying the killing of the officer posted at Bishnupur district horticulture, people of Oinam area today rose up and marched a demonstration rally demanding arrest of the culprits behind the murder and booked them under law.
Around 2000 people including students of schools in the locality took part in the rally that concluded after submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Sub-divisional Officer (SDO).
In the memorandum, they drew the attention of the Chief Minister to cause arrest of the culprits behind the murder of the officer and booked them under law with exemplarily punishment.
Other demands include payment of compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the victim, a government job to one of the family members,etc.
Unless the demands are fulfilled by the government, the dead body of the slain officer will not be received, M Manglem Singh, president of the JAC formed by an emergency meeting of the local clubs, women bodies and NGOs said.
A 12-hour bandh on the Imphal-Churachandpur section of the NH-39 has also been imposed which would be effective from 5 am till 5 pm of tomorrow.
Religious related matters, medical and other essential services will be kept outside the purview of the bandh, Manglemba added.
If government fails to initiate appropriate action to the demands of the JAC, further agitations will be launched, he warned.
