Imphal, June 21 2010:
Government has established separate courts of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East and West which would start functioning from July 1 next.
The Law and Legislative Affairs Department established the two courts in exercise of the power conferred under section (1) of section 11 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (IPC), 1978 in consultation with the Gauhati High Court.
The existing court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal at Court Building Lamphelpat will be used as court of newly Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal east for temporary purpose.
It will cover the revenue district of Imphal east.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal at court room at Uripok Cheirap court complex will be used as court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal west which would cover the entire revenue district of Imphal west.
Meanwhile, welcoming the government order establishing the two courts, fulfilling a pending demanding of the law practitioners, former president of the All Manipur Bar Association, senior advocate, Kh Mani credited AMBA and state government for the same.
He recalled and said AMBA has been pressing the authorities to established separate CJM courts of Imphal east and west since 2005 while he was the president of AMBA for the 2005-07 term.
State law and legislative affairs minister, Th Debendro had also given assurance for translating the demand of AMBA during 2006-07 .
The establishment of the two courts will help in expediting cases in the courts in both Imphal east and west, he observed.
