Imphal, February 06, 2011:
The Act enforced in the country with regards to physically challenged people is needed to be amended, said MLA RK Anand.
He made the suggestion in a pension distribution function for physically challenged people organised by All Manipur Handicapped Persons' Association at the residence of the MLA today.
RK Anand observed that Disability Act must be made liberal and needed to be amplified.
Informing that the Government sanctions Rs 1 lakh each to every MLA for the people living with HIV/AIDS, the MLA questioned why Rs 3-4 lakhs must not be allotted to each MLA for physically challenged people.
RK Anand said that all the 60 MLAs must take up some concrete steps instead of making tall statements in this regard.
Padmashree Laishram Nabakishore, All Manipur Handicapped Welfare Association President Tongbram Romio and MLA RK Anand were the chief guest, guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
Disablity pensions were distributed to 70 physically challenged persons of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C in today's function.
