Imphal, February 06, 2011:
A flag hoisting ceremony of independent candidate Khangembam Ranjit who is being backed by JD (U) and CPI (M) was held at the candidate's Khumbong Awang Mamang Leikai residence today.
The flag hoisting ceremony was marked by presentation of ceremonial gifts (Athenpot) by women belonging to different localities of Konthoujam A/C. Speaking at an election meeting at Khumbong Awang Sabal ground, Kh Ranjit said that Konthoujam Constituency has been going in reverse gear as far as development is concerned due to emergence of politicians who prosper at the cost of the common people.
The Congress MLA elected from the constituency sold off PDS items meant for the people at market.
The MLA also embezzled MLA Local Development Fund meant for development programmes of the constituency because of which the people are suffering a lot, he alleged.
Saying that he decided to contest the by-election in the interest of the public with an aim to bring some positive and new changes in the constituency, he clarified that his decision was not driven by any hunger for power or personal riches.

He also appealed to a particular UG group which had imposed restrictions with regard to his candidature to withdraw the same restrictions.
Saying that his decision to contest the by-election was not a sudden or an impulsive decision, Ranjit claimed that he has been working for the general election since the past one year.
With the Government refusing to give him voluntary retirement, Ranjit resigned from service with a strong determination to bring about some positive changes.
Ranjit further exuded that he would certainly win the by-election.
