Raj Phairembam, UN peace poster prize winner feted

The Lions Club of Moirang today felicitated Raj Phairembem who won first prize in the United Nations' International Peace Poster Contest this year in a function held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Eleven-year-old Raj Phairembam from Moirang won the International Peace Poster contest in which around 3,50,000 children from 100-odd countries took part.
The award will be presented in a function which is to be held on March 18 at the United Nations headquarters in New York for his efforts in spreading the message of peace with his paintbrush and colours.
The award, which was officially declared on Monday, will feature a plaque and a cash prize of USD 5000.The father and mother of Raj and Dr Ksh Umananda, President Lions Club of Moirang will accompany Raj to the award distribution ceremony.
Lions Club of Moirang, Lions Club International district 322D sponsored Raj Phairembam and his drawing in the contest.
Raj is a student of class V studying in Saint Xavier's School, Moirang.
He is the first Indian to win the prize.
He painted a dove removing a dark covering concealing guns, bombs etc.
from the earth, and the earth underneath featured happy faces of children while another dove carried flags of various countries.
