AR reaches out to communities

Imphal, May 12 2023:
Between May 8-10, Eastern Command GOC-in-C lieutenant general RP Kalita and Spear Corps GOC lieutenant gen-eral HS Sahi met with community leaders from all parts of the state at Mantripukhri and urged them to leverage their influence to restore normalcy and endeavour peace between the communities in the larger interest of Manipur.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) in-formed that lieutenant general Ka-lita assured them of whole-heart-ed support of the Army and Assam Rifles.
Accordingly, the community leaders proposed to undertake confidence building measures that could bridge the divide.
As a first step, society leaders from Meetei organisations led a convoy of Kuki community stranded in relief camps in Imphal to Chura-chandpur on May 9.In a reciprocal gesture, Kuki leaders led a convoy of Meeteis stranded in Chura-chandpur to Imphal the same day.
Similar arrangements were replicated from Imphal to Kang-pokpi and Moreh the following day.
Overall a total of 4271 people were provided safe passage between Imphal-Churachandpur, 4134 people between Imphal-Kang-pokpi and 1175 people between Imphal-Moreh, it further informed.
Assam Rifles also extended help in performing the last rites of one Lunsei (67) of Sadar Joute village, who passed away at Keithelmanbi relief camp on May 9.Lunsei had moved into the relief camp on May 3 night when a mob set fire to the village and left him and his family homeless.
He was provided medical atten-tion since May 5 and was referred to RIMS on May 8 under QRT when his breathlessness increased.
RIMS discharged him the following day stating that he had no chance of recovery.
A 33 AR QRT escorted the individual back to Keithelmanbi in an ambulance where he breathed his last at 8.30 pm on May 9 .
