Death anniversary of Guru Ibungo observed

Thoubal, May 02 2024: Guru Ibungo Sharma Sangeet Vidyalaya on Thursday organised the 17th death anniversary of Guru Ibungo Sharma at Tentha Heibung Bamon Mandop in Thoubal district.

The observance was attended by Art and Culture former minister Moirangthem Nara Singh as chief guest, poet Moirangthem Rajendra Singh as functional president and Sagolsem Joy as the guest of honour.

In his address, Moirangthem Nara stressed on the importance of preserving and promoting art and culture as performing artistes are consistently showcasing Manipur's rich cultural heritage and bringing laurels to the state.

Expressing that art and culture helps forge unity among people of different communities and section of the society, he suggested that authorities concerned frame policy for preservation of the art and culture of the state while stating that during his tenure as the minister he proposed a policy but the same has been ignored by successive governments.

As part of the commemorative event, artistes Maibam Shyama Devi (Khongjom Prava) of Keishamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal and Yumnam Manglem Singh (Waree Leeba) of Thoubal Athokpam Makha Leikai were presented with citation, shawl and cash reward of Rs 5000 each.
