Now, students stage protest

Imphal, February 09, 2011: Denouncing the disturbances caused to the conduct of regular classes in Government run educational institutions as a consequence of the ongoing stand-off between the State Govt and Govt school teachers, students of various Govt schools staged sit-in-protests in front of Churachand Higher Secondary School today.

Among others the protesting students held placards demanding immediate resumption of classes and release of teachers from jail.

Speaking to newspersons at the site of demonstration, treasurer of All Manipur Government High and higher Secondary School Students' Union Coordination L Chingkheinganba reminded that it is the student community who are suffering the most due to the stand-off between the teachers and Government on the issue of the former's demand for implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission recommendation.

Expressing strong resentment that disturbance caused to conduct of regular classes in Government schools is seriously affecting preparation of students for the ensuing Council and Board examinations, he also decried denial of education as an affront on Right to Education and conveyed remorse that the teachers are avoiding classes at such a crucial juncture.

Stating that inspite of the teachers' agitation, the Board or Council examination will be held as scheduled, Chingkheinganba cautioned that in case Government school students fair poorly in the said examinations many youngsters deviating from the mainstream cannot be ruled out.

Calling for an early end to the stand-off to facilitate resumption of normal classes, he also cautioned that the students will resort to various mode of agitation for denying them education.

The protest demonstration was participated by students of CC Higher Secondary School, Lamlong high School, Ibotonsana high School, Lilong High School, Chaoyaima higher Secondary School, Wangoi higher Secondary School, Ram Lal Paul High School and Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
