Man abducted, freed; bunkers destroyed

Following abduction of a man by Kuki militants who was freed later, 12 bunkers were destroyed by security forces at Seijang village, Jiribam.
One 26 year old Naresh of Ningthembam who is married to a woman from Bekra Lamtaikhunou was going to Bekra Lamtaikhunou at around 5 pm on April 30 on a two-wheeler.
As Naresh reached the tea estate of Seijang Mongbung village, he was abducted by 13 unidentified armed men clad in camouflage fatigues.
The armed men blindfolded Naresh and they slapped him repeatedly on the face asking whether he was a member of the UNLF or the Arambai Tenggol.
According to Naresh who was freed at around 8 pm, all the armed Kukis were clad in camouflage fatigues except for two/three who were wearing black uniforms.
The Kukis were armed with M-16 rifles, AK rifles, INSAS rifles and bomb launchers, Naresh said.
On learning about the abduction, a joint team of 39 Assam Rifles and Jiribam district police carried out a search operation at Seijang Mongbung village from 1.30 am to 4.30 am on May 1 .
Apart from destroying 12 bunkers which were discovered at Seijang village, the security forces recovered a number of weapons including six single barrel guns, 108 cartridges of 12 bore gun, one empty cartridge of 12 bore gun, four walkie talkie sets with chargers, seven bullet proof jackets and two cartridge belts.
On the other hand, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered a number of weapons during a search operation carried out at Zalengkot village, Churachandpur on April 30 .
The recovered items included one 9 mm carbine machine gun, four 12 mm single barrel rifles, one 40 mm grenade launcher, two improvised heavy mortars, one 9 mm pistol, ammunition and war like stores, according to a press release issued by Hqs IG AR (South) .
