Imphal, July 12 2015 :
The JCILPS has called a State-wide general strike on July 14 from 5 am to 7 pm.
However, medical services, religious functions, electricity, water supply and media would not be covered by the general strike.
If the MRVTMW Bill 2015 is not withdrawn by July 14 and a date fixed for holding a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, the general strike may be followed by indefinite curfew against non-local people, said a press release issued by the JCILPS convenor.
It would be prudent if the State Government gives up its habit of waking up to public issues only when there are violent protest movements and fatalities.
While acknowledging the spontaneous and massive support given to the ongoing movement by every section of the society, the JCILPS appealed to all the protesters not to harass media persons and people going for medical service.
Imposition of curfew, closure of schools and colleges and all the repressive measures unleashed against protesters cannot suppress the mass movement, it asserted.
It also appreciated the decision of the JAC constituted against the killing of Sapam Robinhood not to claim the corpse until the popular demand for enforcement of ILPS is translated into action.
