Killing of Robinhood ; Condemnations continue to pour in

Numerous civil society organisations continue to condemn the killing of school student Sapam Robinhood, who was killed in police action on July 8, during a rally to demand the Inner Line Permit System in the State as well as the excesses of the State police while cracking down on the protesters.
Strongly condemning the death of the student, the Thouda Bhabok Leikai Women Development Society, in a statement issued to the press has deeply condoled the death of the young student and added that numerous other students have also been injured in crackdowns launched by the police.
Pledging to support all course of action taken up by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, the Society decried the silence of the Government in the face of the stringent movement launched by the people.
Deeply condoling the demise of Robinhood, the Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak Youth's Club in a statement said that the late student was a hard-working lad and added that he had also won a merit scholarship offered by the Keishamthong Thangjam Leirak Youth's Club, Relief and Development Society and Women Welfare Organisation for Class X and XII students this year.
Robinhood was born to Sapam Romesh (Naoba) Singh and Sapam ongbi Babita Devi on September 1, 1998, added the statement.
All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) and Meijrao Lakpa Development Club (MLDC), Irom Meijrao have extended prayers and condolences to the family of Sapam Robinhood.
MLDC along with Irom Meijrao Apunba Meira Paibi Lup also blocked major sections of Irom Meijrao roads in protest against police actions during ILP protests, a statement informed.
The National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) has also come out to strongly protest the excesses of the State police personnel while cracking down on the protesters.
In a statement, NIPCO said that it is only right for the higher authority of the State police to intervene and rein in the erring police personnel.
Stating that the protesters have taken to the streets on an issue concerning the future of the land and the people and not for their own personal gains, NIPCO said that the police personnel should not forget this basic point.
The police personnel may discharge their duty but there is no point in letting their brutish side come to the fore, said NIPCO and added that what the protesters are demanding involve their (the policemen) future too.
It would do the image of the police a whole lot of good if only they realise these basic facts, added the NIPCO.
The All Mizoram Manipuri Association (AMMA) has also paid its respect to the departed soul of the late student and conferred the title 'Yelhoumi Kanbagi Luchingpurel' on him.
Numerous other social organisations have also condoled the demise of Robinhood and condemned the excesses of the police.
The Imphal Jatra Association, Union of Social Upliftment, Senior Citizen for Society, Pangal Students' Organisation, Heingang United Clubs' Organisation, Young Women Help Organisation, Radio Listeners' Guild, Youth Popular Club, Co-ordinating Committee NH-37 have also strongly condemned the excesses of the police as well as the killing of Sapam Robinhood.
Other organisations to mourn the death of Sapam Robinhood include Kanglei-pak Women's Welfare Association, All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association, Komrem Mothers Association, All Manipur Arts and Culture Students' Union, International Manipuri Mothers' Association, Thong-ju Kendra Green Revolution Apunba Lup, Women Welfare Organisation, Kanglei- pak, Meira Paibi Mothers' Association, All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association have all condemned the excesses of the State police and condoled the death of Sapam Robinhood.
