Imphal, October 10 2023:
The World Meetei Council (WMC) has appealed to all Meeteis living in India and abroad to share the plight of the Meeteis who have become victims of 'this unjust war' by not celebrating Ningol Chakkouba this year.
The Council, in a statement, said that the Meeteis have not experienced the destruction and devastation of the ongoing conflict since Chahi Taret Khuntakpa (1819 -1826) .
Saying that the crisis resulted in the loss of numerous precious lives and displacement of thousands of families particularly from Churachandpur, Moreh, Kangpokpi, the WMC continued that none of the Meeteis could have anticipated their lives and houses being targeted in such an unforeseen manner as the attack came so sudden.
The future of thousands of youth has been shattered by the attack launched by Kuki militants and consequently Manipur has found itself in a mire, it added.
Keeping in mind what is happening in Manipur, the WMC appealed to all Meeteis living in India and across the globe to show their support and solidarity to the victims of the crisis by not celebrating Ningol Chakkouba this year.
