Sahitya Yokkhat Kanglup celebrates 44th foundation day

The 44th foundation day celebration of Sahitya Yokkhat Kanglup (SAYOKA) Tentha was held today at Tentha Multiplex at Tentha Khongbal.
The programme commenced with paying of floral tributes to the portrait of renowned English poet and novelist Thomas Hardy.
SAYOKA Tentha president, Kartik Maibam; Manipuri Language Board Convenor, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi Professor Rajen Toijamba and Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Saratchand Thiyam graced the occasion as the presidium members.
The 'Thomas Hardy Sahitya Ningshing Mana, 2023', the annual award presented by SAYOKA Tentha was conferred to Kamal Toijamba for his book entitled 'Churachandpur da Khundariba Meeteising' released in 2006 .
The award is presented to those writers for promoting their respective native villagers through their writings.
The award is sponsored by renowned writer Moirangthem Rajendra and it carries a cash prize of Rs 5000, a citation and a shawl.
The recipient of Sambanduram Nandakishwor Handokoi Mana-2023, writer Jamuna was also honoured at the occasion by SAYOKA Tentha.
Speaking at the occasion, Professor Rajen Toijamba lauded the remarkable contributions made by SAYOKA Tentha to promote literature at village level.
Addressing the gathering, Saratchand Thiyam gave valuable insights on the relation between literature and human society and underscored the need of keeping written records of the important events on a day-to-day basis.
He also opined that content of the books like 'Churachandpur da khundariba Meeteising' will serve the purpose to trace the history and significance of Meitei settlements in Churachandpur as it is uncertain at the moment whether Meiteis will be able to resettle in Churachandpur in view of the conflict situation.
Delivering the keynote address of the programme, SAYOKA secretary Premojit Maibam said that SAYOKA was founded in 1979 with the primary objective of promoting the budding writers in rural areas.
SAYOKA has been formed by the literature enthusiasts of Tentha and it will continue to strive relentlessly to achieve the said objective.
Many well-wishers and literature lovers also attended today's programme.
