Imphal, October 10 2023:
Former chairman of Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited Sagolsem Achouba donated relief materials to inmates of the relief camp opened at Shamurou Government High School and urged the government to speed up steps being taken up for return of the displaced people to their respective homes.
After donating cloths, fish and edibles for children and packaged drinking water to the relief camp, Achouba told media persons that thousands of people who fled after their houses were burned down due to the violence erupted on May 3 are still living in relief camps opened at different places across the state.
It would be difficult to console the displaced people with just words.
Action is very much required.
Government has started re-settlement of the displaced people at some places where normalcy has returned but rehabilitation process needs to be sped up, he said.
Meanwhile, Writers of Manipur handed over rice donated by Meeteis of Tripura for the displaced Meetei people to Narsingh temple, Kakwa.
