Scrub typhus claims village volunteer, tributes paid to martyrs

Imphal, October 10 2023:
A village volunteer identified as Thongam Devadutta (42), son of Th Devahari of Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai died of scrub typhus at Shija Hospitals, here, on Monday.
According to his family members, Devadutta had left for Sanjenlok village on September 16 and bitten by a mite which causes scrub typhus disease the same night.
On returning home next day, he complained of sickness and high fever, and taken to Shija Hospital on October 7 but succumbed to the disease on Monday.
Late Devadutta left behind two sons, aged 14 and 10 years and his wife.
Meanwhile, floral tributes were paid to those who laid down their lives for protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur amid the current conflict in a solemn event held at Free Progressive Academy, Konthoujam on Tuesday.
Floral tributes were offered and a two-minute silence observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls.
Speaking on the occasion, Academy's principal L Indrakumar informed that the function has been organised to pay respect to those including students who lost their lives in the present conflict.
He further informed that the school is trying its best level to ensure that the displaced students are provided education.
Altogether 23 displaced students from Churachandpur have been admitted to the Academy and they have been provided free uniforms and books.
They are also giving the opportunity to stay in the boarding free of cost.
The function was also attended by academy's managing committee vice chairman S Leibakmacha, Utlou High School former head master K Kunjaraja, SK Ideal High School former teacher O Yaima and Academy's senior teacher L Shanoubi Singh as presidium members.
