World Mental health day observed widely

Department of Psychiatry, of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal on Tuesday observed the "31st World Mental Health Day" under the theme "Mental health is a universal human right" at the General OPD Block of the Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma suggested ways to improve mental health, while remarking that significant number of individuals worldwide suffer from mental disorders as psychiatrists continue to play an important role in dealing with the issue.
A positive mental health is essential for general health and well-being.
Adolescents and young people are also affected by mental health issues, he said, and advised all concerned to seek medical attention as soon as possible and not to be embarrassed about discussing difficulties with friends and family.
"To create a more mentally and physically healthy society, we must band together and work hard to support and protect everyone's mental health to make a better mentally and physically healthy Society," he continued.
The RIMS director also encouraged students to actively participate in raising awareness about how service to humanity might aid in the treatment of mental health concerns in out society, according to a RIMS press release.
World Mental Health Day 2023 was also observed by Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), Manipur State Branch under the theme "Mental health is a universal human right" at Konthoujam Makha Khabam High School relief camp, on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, IPS, Manipur president Prof K Shantibala pointed out that keeping one's mental health healthy is the right of human beings and every individual should be made aware of these rights.
Due to the prevailing unrest situation in the state, mental health and wellbeing of displaced people taking shelter in relief camps have been badly affected, the professor conceded and appealed to all to help one another and spread the message of living together and keeping our mental health in good shape for building a better society.
A free health camp was also conducted as part of the observance at the relief camp along with providing relief materials to the inmates.
World Mental Health Day was also observed at Government Dance College, Palace Compound under the joint aegis of Department of Clinical Psychology, Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) and Peace Committee, Wangkhei Kendra.
As part of the observance, a drawing competition and a counselling session for the inmates were organised under the supervision of HOD Clinical Psychology Department RIMS Dr Sameeta Ngairangbam and a team of Clinical Psychology Department, RIMS.
Cash prizes were also distributed to the winners of the competition from the side of Clinical Psychology Dept., RIMS.
